The modern medicine is promoting the value of patient centered care.
In this article, it explained 4Cs of patient centered care.

This article discusses patient centered care. Patient centered care is defined as providing care that is respectful of, and responsive to, individual patient preferences, needs and values, and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions.

As discussed here, there are key elements of effective patient- centered approach.

  • The health systems mission, vision, values, leadership, and quality improvement drives are aligned to patient -centered goals.
  • Care is collaborative, coordinated, and accessible
  • Care focus on physical comfort as well as emotional well- being.
  • Consideration given to patient and family preferences, values, cultural traditions, and socioeconomic conditions
  • Patients and their families are an expected part of the care team
  • The presence of family members in the care settling is encouraged and facilitated
  • Information is shared in timely manner so that patient and family members can make informed decisions.

There are further studies which explores the setbacks in patient centered approach. As mentioned in this article, there are research evidence showing that patient centered approach does not work for everybody. Some patients are most satisfied with care with treatment plans. Study shows older patients with traditional outlook prefers a doctor with a more doctor- centredstyle.  If such patient is met with a patient centered doctors who encourage them to be involved in care, they are less likely to follow treatment recommendations.

CAM in medical education

As highlighted in this article, public interest in use of complementary and alternative medicineis increasing in Western world.  There are new paradigm changes in medical theories and concepts. The mechanistic model in early years evolved into organic level. Reductionism in medicine was embodied in the assumption that all illness cultural, social, physical, and emotional could be reduced to its biological components. In that theory health and disease was perceived as material functions; the body was viewed as an organic machine; mind and body were separate.

In the early 20th century, Quantum physics entered the realm of the sub-atomic level, and the reductionism was challenged. The behaviour of sub -atomic world was considered to be “statistical, stochastic, and indeterminate”. The new paradigm considered the universe as an invisible whole, network of dynamic energy involving the observer and his consciousness. This model involves all aspect of humanity, sociology, economics, philosophy, information technology and in medicine.

It is considered that complementary and alternative medicine is a by-product of this modern paradigm shift. The new paradigm emphasizes the move from quantitative to qualitative and from substance to pattern. Medical practices around the world have been affected by this paradigm change and there are more initiatives and effort to include CAM in medical education.

Medical researchers and educationalists are supporting that the primary aim of Complementary and Alternative Medicine lectures at universities should first focus on introduction to most used CAM methods e.g naturopathy, homeopathy, acupuncture etc. to current medical education and curriculum. So far as per statistical data, in USA, 82 medical schools have included CAM-related content in their compulsory curriculum.

There needs to be research and review of what are the medical studentsperception on growing field of complementary and alternative medicine. The summary of this article which has extensively researched into 21 papers on this subject, indicate that medical students lacked the knowledge of CAM and generally positive to engage with CAM education. Most medical students have had the impression that CAM should be incorporated to medical curriculum so that they can have confidence when referring patient to a CAM practitioner. In addition, medical students liked the fact of having increased confidence when communicate to patient regarding CAM therapies. In summary, the rise of CAM as a social and clinical phenomenon encourages inclusion of CAM education in current medical curriculum. This will broaden the horizon of future physicians to full render their role as care providers in an increasingly medically pluralistic world.

Measurable

  • Identify the research findings and how they can impact on the current practice

I will discuss in detail the conclusions and research findings and how it influences modern medicine and healing in
section 09.

Achievable

  • Define how current practice already embedding Five bodies concept in medicine and application of therapy

As mentioned earlier ,Dr Amit Goswami discusses on five bodies of consciousness. His theory and way of explanation clearly gives justification how various Biofield, energy flow and application interact with Five bodies of consciousness.

  • Physical
  • Vital
  • Mental
  • Supra mental intellect
  • Bliss (limitless)

Goswami explains how window of Quantum Physics helps to understand the materiality and reality, all components of experienced reality:

  • Physical sensations
  • Vital feeling
  • Mental thought
  • Supra mental intuition
  • Spiritual wholeness

The diagram of five bodies of consciousness illustrates.

  • Physical is the grossest level
  • The vital a higher category
  • The mental still higher category
  • The supra mental
  • The bliss is the whole ground of being

There are many CAM therapies which involve the use of affecting the physical, vital feeling, psychology, supra mental and spiritual aspect.

Acupuncture is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine that uses needles on body to stimulate specific points. They believe this process will help to accelerate natural healing process. Acupuncture is affecting in treating number of conditions neck and back pain, nausea, anxiety, depression, insomnia, infertility etc.

Chiropractic medicine mainly work on the bodys anatomy, structure and its functions. The chiropractor therapist uses different techniques to manipulate spine or any other part of the body with manipulation therapies. Such manipulation therapies help to create proper form or in alignment. Chiropractors use their treatments on easing back pain and other forms of joint pains.

Energy therapies mainly focus on energy fields that are flowing in and around human body. Such therapies help to heal many musculoskeletal symptoms and diseases.

Reiki therapists are another form of energy therapy that tap into bodys natural energy to promote healing. In Reiki, the practitioners place their hands over the body or places lightly on skin to manipulate the energy flow. This therapy aim is to channel energy through their hands to your body to promote healing.

In healing touch, some therapists use the healing energy to identify and repair imbalances or blockages in persons energy field. Such therapist simply moves the hands back and forth over the body to control this therapy. Healing touch can reduce anxiety and enhance the sense of well – being.

Herbal medicine uses a part of trees or plants to heal the body. Studies have shown that many herbs are effective in healing number of health issues like allergies, PMT, chronic fatigue etc.

Also, complementary therapies like Ayurvedic medicine practitioners rely on herbs / special diet and unique practices to treat illness.

The article from Quantum University discusses how the Five body concept work. They argue that one of the most important missing areas of knowledge in medical curriculum at present is an understanding of the “energetic anatomy” or human Biofield and how such can be applied and added to existing filed of contemporary medicine. Without understanding the ancient systems of healing, medicine is reduced to a mechanical model in which there can only be pharmaceutical or surgical force available to cure disease.

The five bodies of consciousness theory help to introduce contemporary and  Complementary Integrative medical education to the fundamentals of quantum physics which describe the subtle energy structure of the Biofield.

As per Dr Goswami:

  1. The first, outermost layer is physical, dense, and is nourished and developed by nutrition and material development. This is the physical body.
  2. The subtle next layer is maintained and nourished by the breath and constituted by prana or life force. This body is known as the living body
  3. Even the finer third layer is the mental layer formed by active thoughts. This body is related to the mental processes as well as to the personality is also known as the Mental body.
  4. The Fourth layer is the supra mental body. This is the intuitive body also related to high discriminative capacities. Self- consciousness is one of the expressions of this supra mental body.
  5. “Fifth category is the body of happiness. This is the basis of all other bodies or layers where there are spiritual experiences / where time/space and individuality no longer exist.

Goswami reiterates consciousness and ground of all being, Quantum integrative medicine associated with multi-dimensional approach to healing.

There is more than the science – based medical modelof chemical and biological model and structures. after Quantum physics has laid down a foundation there is the concept of Biofield theory more accepted and recognized.

  • Identify the obstacles and limitations in holistic

Provision of treatment and healing by holistic approach was practiced as far as the era of Hippocrates. Holistic approach acknowledges the existence of close relationship between body, mind and soul and focusing on individualism. Holistic approach of medicine is important for individuals’ wellbeing as well as physical illnesses.

Health care professionals should be also capable of offering holistic medical care must understand patient’s sociocultural and psychological situation.

In the following article on PIL (physician in the lead) and holistic are provision, majority does not support holistic delivery care approach as they are more focused on biochemical treatment methods. They believe physicians need to be educated in holistic are approach, as holistic care provision needs greater integration.

Some countries have proposed different health care professional approach where they work complementary to each other. This new strategy Team in the leadwas proposed to meet the holistic care needs.

There are certain well-known limitations in application of holistic or complementary therapies.

  • Time consuming

As highlighted in this article, most complementary therapies do not give results promptly. It usually takes several hours or months before you can see any positive effects. If you expect a quick healing, these methods can be discouraging for such people. This is shown in some therapies like massage and chiropractor therapy where treatment takes some time to give effect.

  • They require lifestyle changes

One must commit time and energy and spend money if you really want to adopt holistic medicine for gaining optimum health. This means making major changes to lifestyle, psychological and handling stress. There has to be a well guided healthy lifestyle and modifications in nutrition and diet which must be guided by an expert therapist to achieve excellent results. Many people have started to practice such changes in life and see good results.

  • Complementary therapies can interfere with medication

Some herbal therapies can interfere with medication. This can affect adversely on human biological systems and immune reactions creating side effects.

Realistic

  • Assessment of the available resources in the various part of the world that will make the new concepts realistic and enhance preventive medicine and join hands with curative care

The following article give in depth knowledge on current medicine, palliative care, curative medicine and need for the enhancement of preventive medicine.

Most current medical practices aid with emergencies, disease control and palliation. Pharmacology is main of the main drive in such therapy. Modern medicine encourages both clinician and research to turn decisively towards prevention and cure.

There is drive towards both new inventions in medicine, new drugs as well as complementary therapies; meditation, yoga,
energy / quantum methods, spirituality in preventing disease.

There are few key areas in healing or complementary medicine.

Prevention

In a theatrical consent prevention is avoid having any disease which is not possible.

Modern medicine is considered mostly focused on reducing the symptoms or manifestations of the disease without removing the root cause. Most physicians and researchers argue that future medicine should aim for cure in one hand and prevention at the same time.

Primary prevention– prevention of disease by following various methods

Secondary prevention– Secondary prevention involves early detection and prompt treatment

Tertiary prevention – Tertiary prevention involved in Restoring function and reducing disability

As highlighted in this article, the role of the psychology and the related field of psychological medicine which can interact and interplay, behaviour, and social context. Such advancement in medicine and need to have a support in health promotions and preventing health. Modern medicine must look at the alternative and complementary medicine as major driving therapeutic disciplines in preventive medicine.

Cure

Cure is concept of treating in illness. This can be either at home or in hospital setting. In other words, most modern medicine highlight this as treatment of an illness when it occurs and prevent any further complications

Longevity and well-being

There are many ongoing studies on this concept. Wellbeing clearly implies the presence of:

Positive emotions and absence of negative ones

  • “Mature character traits including self- directedness, cooperativeness, and self-transcendence”
  • “Life satisfaction or quality of life”
  • “Character strength and virtue; hope, compassion, and courage”

There are many theories developing on topics such as telomeres & longevity, sex differences in longevity, Immunology & Longevity, and psychological factors and longevity.

“The paradigm of Reorganizational healing” – This concept involves work in the field of wellness, behaviour change, holistic practice, and healing.

Anyone who has not visited hospital and over 60 yrs, anyone who has none of the lifestyle diseases till 60 or anybody who are 90 and active physically and mental health even if there is an illness are very precious group.

Timely

  • Achieve the target areas and conclusions within the time frame

The research has managed to explore the intended areas and approach various levels of data available to discuss how the modern medicine embrace Integrative Medicine and Quantum Energy Healing.
